Spring Quilt Market is in Salt Lake City, Utah this year and FreeSpirit is excited to present our designer's newest collections that will begin shipping in the coming months. As always, we will be showcasing beautiful quilts, apparel, accessories and more featuring designs from your favorite fabric designers!

Our newest designer Juliana Horner, daughter of Anna Maria Horner, will be at the show presenting her first FreeSpirit collection, Fast Friends. And many of our designers are participating in the schoolhouse sessions - be sure to come to room 255E to hear them share all the details behind their newest collections. Featured speakers are Amy Butler, Anna Maria Horner, Joel Dewberry, Kathy Daughty, Tula Pink, and Juliana Horner.

We are honored to be a part of Tula Pink's 20th Collection celebration featuring 'Slow & Steady' shipping to stores in September of this year. The collection features Tula's favorite animal features, this time including the story of the 'Tortoise and the Hare'.  Keep an eye out in the coming weeks for more around this wonderful celebration and if you are lucky enough to be visiting us at Quilt Market be sure to swing by the our booth for a chance to win special bundles of Tula fabric!

Amy Butler and David Butler will be in their own booth, #2717, located near the FreeSpirit booth. Amy is hosting a book signing on Friday May 20th at 2:00pm for her newest book 'Piece Keeping' as well as Blossom.

Designer Spotlight - FreeSpirit presents Atrium by Joel Dewberry

 
Joel describes Atrium, his newest FreeSpirit fabric collection as "Light, bright, fresh and uplifting." He says, "Atrium is this season's personal sanctuary of bold motifs that are both organic and modern. Inspired by the meticulous details of private garden settings, this collection captures the beauty of flora, architecture and atmosphere with pop and style."

The collection mixes beautifully with his previous collections and has his signature eclectic modern aesthetic!

Designer Spotlight - Joel Dewberry

September is all about another great FreeSpirit designer - Joel Dewberry! Along with being incredibly down to earth and kind, he also loves to create beautiful, eclectic modern fabrics that are perfect for just about anything you might want to create with fabric. 

We paid him a visit in late August to pick his brain and are excited to share with you what we found throughout the month.

But first, a bit about Joel's background! 

In 2000, Joel graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design from Brigham Young University. During his studies there he cultivate an appreciation and love of all things tactile. Following his design training, he pursued a brilliantly exciting career in brand development and corporate identity in the Northwestern United States. His attention to detail, quality craftsmanship and respect for design antiquity posed him as an outstanding talent among his peers. After acquiring more than 10 years of brand development experience in a wide variety of industries including the home and textile market, Joel realized his ultimate reward by launching his own textiles brand, Joel Dewberry Eclectic Modern, in May 2007.

As a prolific designer, artist and craftsman, Joel is thrilled to express his passion for design on the medium of fabric. Joel's superb sense of harmonizing an eclectic mix of design styles into a cohesive collection has drawn him respect and attention as it delivers a modern yet timeless style.

Earth Day Save the Planet, Joel Dewberry True Colors Shopping Bag

We have teamed up with Creativebug to offer some great classes from our True Colors designers.  Joel Dewberry and his wife Laurie share this great tote project... who doesn't need another tote bag to carry their groceries around in?

Joel and Laurie combine their love of colorful fabric with sewing know-how to make a stunning and sturdy farmer's market tote bag. Both the interior and exterior of the bag are pieced together with eye-catching fabrics. Laurie walks you through the steps for constructing the bag from the inside out, and covers details like adding fusible interfacing and making pockets. Once the sides of the bag are assembled, she shows you how to add the bottom of the bag and hand-sew the opening closed with a slipstitch. Announcing our True Colors Blog Tour

Cyndi Lauper had it correct when she sang about True Colors, “Your True Colors are beautiful, like a rainbow.” Now, FreeSpirit Fabrics has launched a new designer-driven mixer collection, with the same name, meant to serve as the perfect print complement to any quilting or sewing project.

Entitled True Colors, these initial print mixers or stand-alone fabrics were designed under the artful eyes of some the best known designers for FreeSpirit: Joel Dewberry, Anna Maria Horner, Heather Bailey and Jenean Morrison.  The prints and palettes are true to each designer’s unique signature style and play upon the fresh, modern, trend-right aesthetic of FreeSpirit.

10 & 10 Series Starts Today on Sew4Home

Our friends at Sew4Home bring you truly creative ideas for using fabrics as well as very helpful and educational sewing tips.  Last year we had a lot of fun with Sew4Home producing our Romantic Bedroom Retreat in which we showed you how to mix and match different designer's fabrics and different types of fabrics like voiles and cotton sateens, etc.  We also ended the year with a Holiday Home series offering some fun gift and home decorating ideas.

Now, we are kicking off the  New Year with a brand new series. We've selected 10 Designers and 10 Collections to create several how-to tutorials plus an awesome Great Giveaway,in the end. So get ready to mix it up for the new year, and make a resolution to try something new for yourself. We start with a bold clutch with a beautiful big ball clasp. Dress it up or dress it down.
