Christmas in July Block 1-Fiberosity

Hi! I'm Heather and I blog at Fiberosity.com. I also am Fiberosity on Pinterest, Flickr, Instagram and Twitter, if you want to follow me.

This block is wide, finished dimensions of 10.5"x18.5".

When designing this block, I was trying to interpret the shapes of strings of lights or tinsel. If you squint your eyes you can see that in this block. But don't try to decipher the block too long, we have sewing to do! The first step will be cutting your fabrics.

 BAP1

Cut the following:
Solid Green: (1) 3"x5"
Solid White: (1) 3.5"x5" (1) 5"x5" (2) 3.5"x12.5" (2) 5"x12.5"
Red Patterned: (1) 3"x12.5"
Green Patterned: (1) 3"x12.5"

BAP2

Each of the colored or patterned fabric will be strip pieced between a 3.5" wide and a 5" wide strip of white fabric. Put right sides together and sew along the long side using a 1/4" seam. Press towards the colored or patterned fabric. Repeat with all sections.

BAP3

You should end up with 3 strip pieced sections of fabric.

BAP4

Cut each section into 1.5" strips as shown.

BAP5

Arrange the sections before sewing. With the green patterned fabric, the smaller section of white should be towards the top of the block. With the red patterned fabric, the smaller section should be towards the bottom of the block. Arrange the solid green intermixed to give texture and interest.

BAP6

Stitch together the sections, right sides together, using a 1/4" seam. I highly recommend measuring as you sew to ensure that your piecing is precise. With so many sections, if one is off, then the whole block will be off.

 BAP7

Continue piecing until all the sections are complete. Press seams as desired. And you're done! Best Blogger TipsShare/Bookmark
