A day devoted to your local quilt shop!

Saturday, January 25 has been dubbed Local Quilt Shop Day.  It is THE day worldwide when quilt shops should be celebrated. This means, it’s the perfect day for you and your friends to patronize your local quilt shop!

So much occurs behind the doors of your local quilt shop.  It is more than a place where you can buy fabric and become inspired.  It is a place of fellowship! Aren’t some of your closest friends someone you met at a class or event at your local Quilt shop?

It is a place where you can learn about the latest quilting technique, a notion or two which makes your creativity more fun and easier or the latest and greatest in fabric collections or sewing machine technology.  It’s a place where your kids can sign up for a summer camp, engage in the life skill of sewing all while learning resourcefulness and reinforcing math skills.

It’s a place where you can expand your creative horizons, become proficient at a craft you love and share your knowledge and handiwork with others who will ohhh and ahhh over the wonders of transforming flat fabric into something three-dimensional.

It’s a place where they know your name, your story, your family’s hopes and dreams.  More importantly, it is a small business which sustains families that live in your community and often gives back in simple and meaningful ways.

Did you know that according to NFIB and American Express Research, this year, consumers who were aware of Small Business Saturday (November 30, 2013) reported spending $5.7 billion with independent merchants on the day, an increase of 3.6% from a strong $5.5 billion in 2012?

So won’t you join the celebration on January 25? Show your support and love for your local quilt shop owner who thoughtfully considers your sewing and quilting dreams when she opens his/her doors. Who knows you want the perfect fabric, to make the perfect quilt which will bring your family fond and loving memories for years, perhaps decades to come.  Click here for more information and get out and shop!

Announcing our True Colors Blog Tour

Cyndi Lauper had it correct when she sang about True Colors, “Your True Colors are beautiful, like a rainbow.” Now, FreeSpirit Fabrics has launched a new designer-driven mixer collection, with the same name, meant to serve as the perfect print complement to any quilting or sewing project.

Entitled True Colors, these initial print mixers or stand-alone fabrics were designed under the artful eyes of some the best known designers for FreeSpirit: Joel Dewberry, Anna Maria Horner, Heather Bailey and Jenean Morrison.  The prints and palettes are true to each designer’s unique signature style and play upon the fresh, modern, trend-right aesthetic of FreeSpirit.

Of course, each designer has his or her own interpretation of what is True to his or her heart when it comes to color and design.  Click here to spend some quality time with Anna, Jenean, Heather and Joel as each tells you what color means in their lives.

The FreeSpirit True Colors 100% cotton fabrics are designed to mix with any print fabric and especially each designer’s own fabric collections and other FreeSpirit fabrics – past, present and future.

We put this to the test by enlisting some of our blogger friends, challenging them to make their True Colors shine through with fat quarters, design rolls, charm packs and yardage from each designer’s collections.  Please join in the fun of our Blog Hop and see how their True Colors are created into ideas to inspire your sewing and quilting . . . especially with FreeSpirit Fabrics!  Plus, they may each have something special to share if you visit and comment.

Paw Prints by Kathy Davis

We love our pets! Paw Prints is the ultimate tribute to our favorite four-legged friends a whimsical glimpse into the universe of cats and dogs in cheerful shades of red and lue with accents of chartreuse and nature inspired neutrals.

In this playful world, Dalmatians frolic against a canvas of “spots.” Fire hydrants and dog bones are tossed with balls and paw prints, while cats nap amid hearts, fish and the message “I my kitty.” Sweet puppy and kitty faces are “awww”-inspiring. Paw Prints is a lighthearted and fun collection of fabrics just right for your next special project.

Rosey By Tanya Whelan

Pretty, soft, playful and innocent are the words that describe Rosey. Sweet little roses, floral paisleys, cherry blossoms rendered in gentle reds, blues and pinks make this collection feel both fresh and cheerful. Rosey would be wonderful for new mom gifts like diaper bags, changing pads, bibs and of course quilts for all ages. Best Blogger TipsShare/Bookmark

For a good cause

It seems that some things touch everyone's life in one form or another. Family member, friend, friend of a friend and even yourself, Cancer knows no boundaries.

As quilter's we love to give back in many ways whether by making the everlasting treasure of a quilt for someone or just using our time and talent to help those less fortunate. In the true spirit of quilting and giving, mark your calendar for January 15 and join the Fiber 5K Fight Cancer .

Now, you don't have to put on your running shoes and brave the cold. You can join in the fun as part of Fiberart For A Cause's virtual race by helping the cause reach its goal of donating $5,000 to the American Cancer Society. Every dollar donated moves the race 1 meter closer to the goal. Better yet, the more money raised the better your chances of winning some fabulous prizes, including FreeSpirit Fabric!  Drawings will be done at each milestone; at the 1K ($1000) mark, 2K ($2000) mark, etc., plus a Grand Prize drawing at the Finish Line. Simply follow the donation link on January 15, donate and watch the little red shoe on the race route.

According to Race Director, Virginia Spiegel, "Fiberart For A Cause likes to have fun while raising money to fight cancer, so, of course, there are going to be more "race" details revealed as January 15 draws closer. 100% of donations are given directly to the American Cancer Society through Fiberart For A Cause. Fiberart For A Cause has already donated more than $230,000 to the American Cancer Society thanks to the generosity of fiber artists and patrons."
