«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 316 of 316My favorite fabric looks like it was made in Japan. It has waves and is a mix of blues and greens. It just gives me a dreamy feeling. I used it to make a vest for my daughter years ago. I keep the leftover fabric and just get it out and look at it sometimes waiting for the right inspiration.
I can't choose a favorite as well! I think right now it's a beautiful yellow gold floral print....I keep petting it and dreaming of what to make with it. Other favorites are batiks my husband brought me from a business trip to Malaysia.
Can anyone who is an avid sewer have just one favorite fabric?! In my stash I have a few that I can't bring myself to cut into...one is this beautiful burnt orange silk that was given to my mother from a cliant that she worked for. She passed it on to me because I was a lover of all things orange for a while...I also have this piece(1yd) of this beautiful flowery fabric I picked up a few years ago...pinks, greens, teals, brown, flowers, trees, and birds...it's just too pretty to cut! I may just frame it instead! Then there is Amy Butler...and Anna Maria Horner...and Liberty of London...Oh I could go on! I love fabrics and all thee amazing things you can do with it. These Erin McMorris fabrics are unbelievably beautiful! Would love to get my hands on some! :)
Black fabric with small hot pink, and white flowers - one of my favourite dresses when I was a teenager! I chose the fabric and made the dress. Then it was one of the fabrics in a hexagon quilt I started in Year 10 at school. Actually the 'flowers' were made up, and some of the flowers sewn together - but it never made a 'quilt'! Recently I started putting them on a lap quilt to give away - and I've recently met up with my Year 10 Maths teacher who got me started on making the hexagons - I met her again at my local quilt group!
I have a piece of each fabric I used in my two granddaughters' quilts. One of which was the first quilt I made. These mean a lot to me and I hope to use them to make into a scrappy quilt for myself one day. Thanks for the giveaway. These fabrics are gorgeous.
I have a wonderful piece of poppy fabric that I fell in love with and now I can't cut it. I just look at it. Don't know what I will do with it, but some time I hope to find the perfect pattern for it.
I love fabric. When I am depressed or I don't feel like doing housework, I will go to a fabric shop. It has the same affect as visiting an art gallery. I am in awe of the beauty of the fabrics - but better than an art gallery - I can touch the material! I have a velvet that is my favorite fabric. It has a floral design in autumn colors on a black background. When I purchased the last of the bolt, the ladies at the counter commented on how much they loved that fabric. I made a vest out of it (all the rage back in the '80's). It was flattering, comfortable, and many of my co-workers and even strangers on the street commented about how pretty the vest was. It is still hanging in my attic. I have given away many old clothes, but I can't bear to part with that vest!
How beautiful. The colors are my sunshine colors and I would love to see them in a quilt.
I am a newbie at sewing. I would like to focus on bags/totes and later get into quilting. I am slowly completing small projects. I have started to buy a lot of fabric for someone who is a beginner & I am attracted to all of the premium quality fabrics. I have my eye on the EM29 grass, Summersault fabric, it has a nice fresh look!
My friend, Pennie, knows how much I love fabric and bought me some beautiful navy and white fabric on a recent trip to China. I was thrilled that she bought three yards, giving me enough to make almost anything!
Wow--what beautiful fabric! I'm a fabric hog--I love all of my fabric!
I started quilting 15 years ago...or so....and the first quilt I made was from fanels. I went a little overboard and made too many rows and it was too long. LOL! So I ended up taking out 3 rows! I had a friend that knew how to quilt to tie the quilt. She did a great job! It is still my husbands favorite! I love that man! Now, I have a love affair with Moda, especially 3 Sisters fabric! But, I do have others that I like. I just love fabric...period!
I actually have two favorite fabrics. They are the same fabric but one is this beautiful red and the other is a nice cream shade. The fabric is some antique silk fabric that is ribbed like corduroy but is very silky with a nice sheen. I used to make costumes for a medieval recreation group and I was going to use it to make a beautiful gown, but I could never find exactly the right design and now that I that I no longer participate in the group I can't find anything to make that would do the fabric justice. I'll keep looking.
I just love anything that my mother has called "in your face" fabric. I still use some of the older toile for my daughter as she fell in love with it the moment she saw it. Now she is grown and gone off to college, but I still have neices that love fabric too. They love to come to my sewing room and ask for a job to perform. I plan on getting them both a small machine to leave in there so they can learn to sew too. Even if I don't win, I intend on buying some of that daisy pattern. I buy what I like and what appeals to me, then I work around it to find coordinating material to enhance the "pop".
The only fabric of mine that really has a story is a bright yellow piece that my grandmother bought for me when I was maybe 11 or 12 because she thought I could make something for myself out of it. I really didn't know how to sew or anything but I loved that she thought I could anyway. I've used small pieces of it but I still have a lot left. I think she bought me several yards!
My favourite piece of fabric right now is Magnolia Lane by Laura Gunn.
Those fabrics are wonderful. My fabric story is coming full circle. When I started to learn to quilt my older son would tag along with me to quilt shops, he would pick out a piece of fabric that we intended to make into an I spy quilt. Life got hectic as it normally does and the I spy quilt never made it out of the bag of fat quarters. Well he is in his last year of HS now and I am now piecing together a Harry Potter Bookshelf Quilt and those fat quarters are going to wind up being the spines of the books in the quilt. I am so excited to do this quilt and even more excited to give it to him but it is bittersweet still.
Happy to have just learned about this blog. Looking forward to reading! Hard to pick only one fabric. Have so many. Hardest to cut are the pieces of antique silk kimonos and those I've created myself. Favorite colors are bright, highly saturated primaries, teals, purples, oranges, ... I could go on, but won't.
I have an old piece of bark cloth covered with green foliage that I found in a basket of scraps in an antique shop recently. I love the texture of barkcloth. I'm not sure what I will do with it, but I sure do like looking at it.
My first quilt was at quilt camp in middle school! Thanks mom!
I am a great fan of Free Spirit fabrics. Collect, collect, collect...that is my motto. I collect it and then sit and admire it and now my daughter is as hooked as her mom.
I just purchased this beautiful old set of curtains at an antique shop. It is a faded, soft rose cotton fabric in soft reds, pinks, and white. When I saw it I had to have it. I don't quite know what I'll do with it yet, but it will have to be something very special!
I love fabric, period. My husband says I have a problem!
My current fav is a piece of fabric with an all-over dog print. I'm thinking of making a purse from it.
The fabris are gorgeous. My grand-daughters would love scrappy skirts out of the fabrics with doll outfits to match.
I have a huge assortment of "favorite" fabrics. Many of them haven't found a use yet, other than as general inspiration. But I love to look at them and pet them, and some day, they may find themselves in the perfect project!
I'd have to say my new favorite is Summersault by Erin McMorris! It's exactly what I need for a modern HST quilt!
The fabrics are gorgeous. My grand-daughters would love scrappy skirts made from them with matching skirts for their dolls.
I bought a piece of aboriginal fabric a year ago at what for me was an exorbitant price because the vendor according to my mother looked lonely and sad. It's a truly lovely piece but what I love most was my mom's concern that someone was unhappy and we should do something about it. I may not ever use it but I'll always treasure it.
I have fabrics from the first quilt I started back when I was a senior in high school iin 1972-73. I never finished that quilt but when I take out the fabrics and look at them, it's like a time machine that transports me back. There's the maroon and white shirting from a gift for a boyfriend, the orange polka dots I used to make pj's for my little sisters, the paisley print that went into the maxi peasant dress. It's a fun and nostalgic blast from the past!
I am fortunate to have a cedar chest of favorite fabrics - my Nono (Italian Grandpa) worked in a woolen mill in Stafford Springs,CT and my Nona (Italian Grandma) was one of the best seamstresses in town.I have many pieces of very fine wool from the 1940's,50's and 60's. I've only been able to bring myself to cut a few of them. I don't think cloth like this is made in the USA anymore, if anywhere.
My favorite fabric certainly isn't quilting material. It is a lovely red plaid of Pendleton Wool. My mother had bought nearly a bolt full of the fabric. She made me a fantastic wrap coat, very early 80's. I wore it all through college and absolutely loved it.
I don't really have a favorite piece of fabric, I too love them all. My current projects are for my new grandson and granddaughter. There are so many cute, cute fabrics available for kids so I am enjoying every minute.
Thanks for your contest!

I love all the new brightly colored cotton fabrics I'm seeing everywhere right now. Since I am sewing for my new grandchildren, I am thrilled that so many cute choices are available.
My favorite fabric changes with every new line that comes out, but I have a special place in my heart for anything Amy Butler; she was the first designer I fell in love with and started my quilting with her beautiful prints.
I don't actually have a favorite fabric but I am really into the brightly colored cotton/cotton blends that are availble now. Most of my sewing is for my two new grandbabies, so I am truly attracted to these. (for now ;-) )
My favorite fabric is fabric that is electric in color...brights and florals...it makes me happy

Going through my mother-in-law's old clothes, I found an old, well-used scarf that reminded me of my niece. The scarf inspired my first quilt design and, although the colors turned out much more intense than the scarf, the basic idea was from the scarf and hunting quilt shops for the fabrics was such a delightful adventure. I put a piece of the scarf into the binding and can't wait to give to my niece this
Christmas! (I am making one for her twin brother with the exact same design, but totally different fabric colors; what fun I am having!) Thanks for the opportunity to share~
I'm a relatively new quilter - A bundle of Hope Valley - all of it. Just enjoy taking it out and looking at it. Haven't got the guts to cut into it yet - probably because it was my first desigher purchase.
Summersault is the kind of fabric I would dive into feet first because of it's energy.
Thanks for the giveaway.
My favorite fabric was the BIG box of fabrics stored under my bed filled with fabrics from my mother and bought by me, because our high-school daughter would call me at work and say"Mom, I just saw a blouse on TV that I like and I want to make one - can I use some fabric from under the bed?" When I came home, I'd find her sewing away on her new blouse. And that would be my favorite fabric because of all the memories being brought full circle.
I bought three metres of a Sandra Banava fabric - 'Potpourri' in the bluey-green colours, with flowers inside circles - on sale, on spec. I had a crazy baby who wouldn't sleep, and whilst rocking him for hours I would distract myself by plotting what I would do with it 'one day' when I had time... and one day, I made it into a wrap-around skirt lined in black. It is really the most gorgeous fabric, and now I get to wear it - hooray!
In the early days of reproduction fabrics I won a 30cm cut of the whole Rising Sun collection of fabrics by RJR. I have used them in several projects and still have a few treasure scraps left. That prize started a love affair with reproduction fabrics but my tastes are varied and I love to use the current bright and fresh fabrics as a contrast to the more muted reproductions.
i'm a new sewer so i dont have a lot of fabric in my stash and definitely none that is a well-loved and cherished collector's peice. i have a large well rounded yarn stash and suspect my fabric stashwill follow but for now i find it difficult to find my way around the fabric world. so far i've only gone with amy butler fabrics as i know it will be a good quality cotton i can easily work on inbeautiufl colors and prints but the lack of fabric stores around here and my lack of confidence to buy from the net something i know nothing about isnt helping my stash any
thanks for having this contest and drawing :D
My favorite fabrics are those that are music related. I sing and keep buying fat quarters of any musical fabric I see. Maybe one of these days I'll put them all together in a quilt or wall hanging for my music room.
My favorite fabrics are the 30's reproductions. I love the bright happy colors & charming prints. They speak to me of optimism, perseverance & remind me of my grandmother who, despite a challenging life, never lost hope or her joy & love of life.
my favorite fabrics are the vintage ones, or ispaire by it.
Thael
There are too many favourites in my collection. Maybe the latest piece I've bought becomes the favourite. I've become brave and now cut & use my favourites.
I have some fabric (a MINK and wool blend! from a baby coat that my Mom made me almost 60 years ago. Have a hangtag from the fabric that accompanied each purchase. It's a keepsake as the coat exists only in some B/W photos of me. Mom loved to sew.
As most of us do, I purchase fabric when I fall in love with it - even when I don't have a use at the time. A few years ago, I purchased some coordinating cotton fabrics - one with adorable dresses. They're almost gone and I'm sure long gone from the stores. I only use them in bits and pieces now. Could I be a fabric hoarder??? Love your fabrics.
In fact I am not a quilter at all, but I love fabrics that are often used for quilting. I make hairbows and other accessories in bright colours and I'm addicted to Kanzashi! I like Polka Dots and use them in dozens of colours and sizes, but I also love some indian silk my sister bought for me during her holidays in India. The colours are so ...special! I must admit I haven't dared to cut some of them yet... I just take them out and touch them :)
My favorite fabric is batiks. I sew for others, and cannot throw away 'scraps'. So I have a ton of batik scraps, which will one day go into a new bedspread quilt. I have several different quilts designed in EQ, and my choice changes from time to time. Right now, it will be a Storm at Sea variation. By the time I actually have time to do it, who knows what pattern I'll use. It is for sure though, that it will have a wool batting. I've never used that, but have heard so much about it.
My favorite fabrics are pieces that I got from my mom. Nothing terribly unusual, just pieces that remind me of her. =)
When friends visit my craft room, the first thing they see is the tall bookshelves of fabric. I always remind myself I must continue to use the fabric I have....but when I visit a quilt store there is always one more yard that I need. I think my motto is...."I have never met a fabric I didn't like..."
My favorite fabric seems to change on a daily basis. Right now I am loving a cute sushi print on a black background - last night I cut out a batch of aprons and can't wait to get sewing!
A Favorite Fabric! Not really. I have a closet full of bins loaded with favorite fabrics. I love them all. But I also love the new ones I see every day. And I would love to win some of these new beautiful designs.

In January of 2008 I started a medallion quilt for my sister who was getting married in August of the same year. The feature fabric was 1.5 m of rainbow coloured hearts (batik). This was my second quilting project ( my first quilting project was 2 nine patch quilted cushion covers) so I was very worried about all the triangles, the appliqued flowers on the center, and actually finishing the quilt on time. I was not however the least bit worried about the ammount of feature fabric I had bought. I had seen it just the month before at a local quilt shop, as the bolt came in. I had fallen in love with it and knew it was PERFECT to make something for my siter's wedding. But because I wanted to make something for myself as well, I decided to buy an extra half metre, beyond the original metre I had wanted. I can only thank God that I had. I was one six inch wide strip short of what I really wanted to do on this medallion quilt. But the quilt shop had sold out of it in less than a week. I spent 3 months deperately trying to source more of this fabric to do what I wanted. I gave up April, changed the plan a bit and started working very hard on this quilt. The good news is that I finished it on time ( just- I was sewing the binding on during the flight to Holland where my sister lives). I called it "garden of hearts" and both she and my brother in law loved it. The bad news was that I loved that fabric and couldn't find it anywhere! December 2008 I was browsing some Batiks on the internet when I FOUND IT! It was in USA. Being sold by the yard ( which has alwayd confused, because beyond inches I am strictly metric). So I ordered 9 yards (thinking there were 3 yards to the meter). They only had seven yards, so now I have 6 odd meters of this fabric that I love. I take it out and pet it once in a while, but have not found the right project to slice into it yet.
I don't know if this link will open for you, but this is the only online image of this fabric I could find: http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://i.ebayimg.com/00/%24(KGrHqEOKpIE1qn127P1BNn9O12SIQ~~_35.JPG&imgrefurl=http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/ws/eBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D260776913158&usg=__I5u7lXuvCr8zdVP3qjb8H0ZA-mM=&h=211&w=300&sz=19&hl=en&start=5&zoom=1&itbs=1&tbnid=3Y_jYuhSPIvrNM:&tbnh=82&tbnw=116&prev=/search%3Fq%3Drainbow%2Bheart%2Bbatik%2Bfabric%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26biw%3D1003%26bih%3D588%26ndsp%3D20%26tbm%3Disch%26prmd%3Divns&ei=5C4cTtnuNMidOvTykacJ
My favourite fabric has stripes on it. I am drawn over and over again to striped fabric; in clothing, crafting, quilts, bags etc. My children always have at least one striped top in their wardrobe, and so do I. And when I feel like playing with stripes, I just cannot go past spots...
My favorite fabrics are the Dutch chintzs that I bought in Amsterdam 4 years ago. At this point I just admire them until I find the perfect project for them. Kathie L in Allentown
My favorite piece of fabric was a plain beige polished cotton. Circa 1956. Small farm town Midwest, only a few bolts a fabric to choose from at a local dress shop. I was in 4H. The assignment was to make a skirt with an elastic waistband. I had no sewing machine, would have to walk to my Grandma's house, so at the 11th hour I started creating that skirt. In haste, I ripped the bottom to hem it instead of cutting, and since I didn't bother to stay with the grain when I laid out the pattern, I wore the original mini skirt down the runway at the fair! No blue ribbon either. But the memories and the start of many years of sewing my own clothes began with that boring shiny fabric. I'll never forget it!
My favorite fabric was given to me by a friend. It has Beatrix Potter characters on it (I'm slowly turning INTO Beatrix Potter (reindeerstationfarm.blogspot.com) and I haven't found the perfect project for it yet. My latest "what if" is "what if I covered my knitting design notebook with that fabric?" So maybe I will gather up enough courage to cut into it someday. For now it's enough just to enjoy it.
My favourite fabric changes constantly but 'Bliss' has been on the list for ages!
I have a lot of favorite fabrics. One of them is a light green and white damask print.
fabewelousknits(AT)gmail(DOT)com
I just love fabric. I could stare at a stack for hours :-)
thanks, please enter me in the giveaway.
My most favorite fabrics come from Anna Maria Horner! She has freed me from conventional simple calico's to a world of design and color! I'm 55 years old and find myself a re-inspired quilter/sewer that now sews non-matchy matchy fun handbags, quilts and garments for my friends, daughters and granddaughter. Best of all, my daughters are beginning to get "the sewing bug" thanks to the beautiful fabric prints and colorways available to create with.
My favorite piece of fabric is a red tartan plaid that my grandmother brought back from Scotland for me when I was in high school. I was going to make a kilt, but never completed it. Throughout the years, I have looked at the length of wool fabric & thought of ideas, always leaving it alone; but remembering the love from my grandmother & her wonderful choice to bring me fabric from across the seas when I was young. (I am now a grandma myself now...)
Years ago, I fell in love with Kente Cloth from Ghana and Mud Cloth from Mali. My husband and his groomsmen draped Kente strips over their tux jackets, and through the years, I've collected accessories made from mud cloth. I'm constantly trying to figure out ways to incorporate those fabrics in my quilts. I'm new to quilting, but it's an art form I've loved since I made my first throw!
Right now my favorite is the fabrics used in the Phantasma Quilt by Janet Page Kessler. They are from the Paula Nadelstern's Deja Vu collection by Benartex. They are so rich you would give up a warm chocolate chip cookie to feel them.
I wish I had a family fabric story! I certainly have some that I love more than others and have a very hard time cutting into! I do have a piece from my husband's grandmother that she used to make things for his sister when she was a baby. I'm saving it for when she has her own! :)
Blue velvet.
I still have the tiny gorgeous blue velvet dress I made for my daughter when she was two. She's now about to receive her PhD -- so many years have flown by.
I'm hoping that some day she may have a daughter who can wear the dress. Meanwhile, I have a few scraps of the blue velvet left -- can't bear to use them for anything else.
My favorite fabric is actually an old pillow slipcover I was allowed to have from an elderly friend's home after they had died. It is a beautiful pink and palmy piece of barkcloth, and a wonderful reminder of my friend.
I don't have just one fav fabric, I LOVE THEM ALL!! I can't choose, just like my kids, they're all my favorites! I DO have a yard or so of antique Cluny? lace that my grandmother gave me years ago, and I plan to make a special keepsake from it for my daughter's wedding next spring. :-) Thanks for the giveaway!!
I am a fabric hoarder - I have to admit. I love fabric, the colors the smell, the feel. Every time I look at a piece of fabric I see quilts, pillows, pictures, stuffed animals and clothes. However, that is where my creativity ends. I am too scared to start any project because I don't want to ruin the fabric! If I do end up making something I usually save a small piece of the fabric in a jar just so i will always have a piece of it just in case my project goes badly. So, of course, I have lots of favorite fabrics that I have all piled on a shelf so I can always see it and keep my creative juices flowing (even if they don't go anywhere). My favorites, however, are the whimsical prints I use to make blankets or quilts for my son (poorly made, I might add, but he doesn't seem to notice.) Currently, I have some great Monster fabric with bright bold colors - hoping to make a "nice" quilt with it (before he is in high school) and some pillowcases and bean bags!!
I have a piece of fabric that I bought in the 90's. I pulled it out the other day and surprisingly I still love it. It is a wide diagnonal stripe that I intend to use as a border for the perfect quilt. Still haven't made that perfect quilt.
I can't even name one single fabric line or designer. I love them all. I am a fabric fondeler. Yes it is shameful but it is fact. I caress and dote on whatever is within reach. This has been going on since childhood so I doubt I will ever change. I absolutely love the new modern, colorful rich designs that are being created. It is so fun to mix and match...sort of feeds my juices. They kinda remind me of the 60's so I call them "happy hippy". Fun carefree, young and happy!
When my grandmother got to old to live alone anymore, she took me into her stash room of fabrics and told me that I was to take all of it. including her feed sack collection. I think my favorite pieces were the feed sacks. I will never use them because I am afraid that if I was them, the will fall apart due to age. I do plan on scanning the prints and have new fabric printed at great cost so that I can always have the ones my grandmother gave me.
My favorite fabric is usually the next one to come out. I really like textured fabric like corduroy.
Only a couple of days ago I acquired a little bit of Summersault fabric and definitely want more so I have more options for a quilt design.
My Mom sewed all our clothes for us when we were growing up so I am very nostalgic about fabric and she, being a child of the depression, has saved every teeny scrap. A bit of a hoarder, in fact. Not now but someday I look forward to raiding all of that and making something with it. If I retire from work while my Mom is still here on earth, I hope to do that with her. She'd like that.
I just love paisley-- particularly blue and green and purple paisley.
for quilting using batiks have been wonderful.- but this new fabric with the cups is adorable-- good luck!
My favorite fabric is a small peice left over from my mothers apron. Purple was her color and this had purple flowers with green and some yellow. Some day it will be used but until then I will enjoy it when ever I open my sewing basket and think of her.
One of my favorite yardages is white with a black butterfly stencil design. I purchased it at a fabric mill on the Florida Keys many years ago while on a short cruise my husband had earned through the company he worked for. Originally planned for a summer dress, maybe now will be used for some home dec items for our deck to remind us of that Key vacation.
I bought three small 1 yard cuts of hand-dyed Japanese fabric - and it's still in my stash waiting for the perfect project to showcase them...!
Many, many moons ago I purchased three small 1-yard cuts of these lovely blue-hued Japanese hand-dyed fabrics. I've yet to find the perfect project to use them in...!
Because I have a few Grandchildren WANTING quilts made by Grandma I can use some new fabrics to plan and play with.Thanks.
Think I'm nuts if you will but my favorite fabric is used denim. It goes with absolutely everything. I started out making purses with old jeans, used the legs for the straps, the pockets were super for storing cell phones (though I've been doing this over 40 years!) The more it's washed the softer it is til it's like flannel. You can line it with flannel or gingham or put patches on it, you can make vests or stuffed animals. You can embroider on it. The question is, what can't you do with it?? You can even dress it up for evening wear if you're sneaky enough!
My favorite fabric is a bolt of beautiful black cotton lace manufactured in Coventry, RI. The factory is gone and the 100 year old lace machines sent to India. I'm saving the fabric for some very special "lace-worthy" garment.
Now to digress... Somersault fabrics - your name is very reflective of your fun, sassy designs. Your laminate is of particular interest to me - I have a vintage pattern that would work perfectly with your laminate for a spring raincoat.
My favorite fabrics are in a tote my stepdaughter gave me for my birthday a few years ago. The outer fabric is light blue turquoise with green peacock "eyes" and the lining of the bag is red linen. When I opened the gift and saw the color combination, I couldn't believe she had selected something that was so totally "me"! Red/turquoise and blue/green have always been my favorite color combinations.
My first solo quilting project occurred shortly after I was married. It was a king-sized quilt for our bed. My second was a queen-sized quilt for my in-laws bed. Both were heavily favoring the pepto-bismol pink solid fabric I had purchased and used in Irish Chain format.
My favorite fabric is a white on white funky dot print that I bought on sale at a local quilt shop. I have just a couple small bits left. :( This has been one of my favorite fabrics to quilt with.
Though I would love to win the Summersault fabrics. They might become my new favorite. :)
We found it at a garage sale. My 82 year old Mom spotted it and was all a-giggle. It was a coarsely woven, somewhat off white background with (to my way of thinking) very funky purple and black flowers on it. I had not noticed the widely spaced holes along one edge where it had apparently been stitched either to itself or something else. Mom had seen them and immediately recognized the tell-tale signature of 'feed sack' fabric. It is in my stash now and a constant reminder of the delight my mother took in memories of a perhaps not-so-simple time.
Wow - so many great fabrics out there - but I have to say my favorite is fabric that I have hand dyed. The colors are incredible - I sometimes have a hard time cutting them up & using them.
I started sewing at 10 years old when my best friend asked me to join her in sewing class. Well 41 years later I am still sewing and making quilts now.
So cute! Especially like the round bag, so many possibilities!
I'm a lover of fabric.. My mother-in-law left me her vintage fabrics 1920-1940's) and I am very particular what I pair them with.
There is one in particular that I cherish. I had a dress made from this same pattern when I was very small. She told me it was a vintage flour sack. It brings such memories to mind when I gaze at it. Groceries were sold in fabric sacks!! They are so unique and the colors so unusual.
Unfortunately, fabric stores are very limited in this rural community. I'll be taking advantage of Free spirit--there is everything here!
My favorite fabric is serendipity! If someone gives me fabric or I find an old dress or bag of scraps in a thrift shop or yard sale or something that was in my mother's large collection, I will likely use it in a quilt-I cannot go to a fabric store and pick out fabric by the yard unless I have a specific need for it. I love scraps and small bits. My mother, who grew up in the heart of the depression always laughed about keeping the smallest pieces because they were "too big to throw away". I am very much like that but my truly scrappy quilts always won prizes at our quilt guild when I was active in it. I really do like the new colorful and cheery prints that I see now, and I WANT SOME-lol
I discovered "Lush" by Erin Michaels after it was off the market so I paid dearly trying to get enough for making a quilt for my son...thinking he would love it but it turned out he wanted something from Batiks! So long story short I made a quilt from it for my husband who nevers ask for anything and he loved it!!
I don't think I've been sewing long enough to have a favorite fabric yet. For now, I've been going by my sense of touch. If I like how it feels, I fall in love with it! My first piece of clothing attempted was a tunic made from a light cotton by Tina Givens. It turned out beautifully and feels amazing! So maybe that's my favorite (for now).
I love all kinds of fabrics! Of course, Amy Butler is wonderful.
Perhaps my favs are those I have painted myself. :) Thanks for the opportunity to win.
I've grown up with a fabric obsessed mother and sister but I'm the only quilter amongst us. I've seen some beautiful fabric over the years but the one I still love is a broderie anglaise border print with butterflies. There never was enough to make a dress so it is still in my mothers fabric stash almost 30 years later. I still covet it.
I love my modern fabrics and colours and Summersault is high on my wish list especially the apricot rain drops which is gorgeous.
Fantastic! Actually my favorite fabric ever is an Erin McMorris print. A green print from Park Slope. It has been in so many of my quilts and projects I have lost count. http://alysonspetals.blogspot.com/2010/06/what-is-your-favorite-fabric-ever.html
I even blogged about it. :)
Oh, my favorite fabric ever is an Erin McMorris print from Park Slope, a green and white leaf print, I have used it so much for years and I never get sick of it. Thanks for the giveaway, as usual so excited for her new line!
I have MANY pieces of fabric that I love and hate to cut into! I have a number of Kaffe fabrics that I love and FINALLY decided to make a quilt out of them. That first cut was HARD to make, however.
I have many fabrics I don't wish to cut into, unfortunately.
However, I did finally decide to make a quilt out of a number of Kaffe fat quarters that I have had for a while(since he was at the Minnesota Quilters). It was EXTREMELY hard to cut into them!
Right now my favorite fabrics are related to babies since I'm expecting this fall. I love chenille and flannel - so soft!
Everytime a new fabric line comes out, I am completely smitten with it.
My favorite fabric at the moment is Heather Bailey's pop garden which I used to make a skirt for me. I just love it!
Well, some of my fabrics are bargain fabrics.. I search them mostly from a one dollar to three dollar corner.. Most of them is dirty, wrinkle and etc. But, I do love them.. i will imagine what I want to sew whenever I digged out a "nice" fabrics :D....
You will never know what you will find in the fabrics stash, some are a good treasure :D
I love them all! I just finished a couple handbags with Heather Bailey's nicey jane - they came out so cute! I am hoping to start a new one today with Erin McMorris fabrics!
Favorite fabric? Where do I begin... one small piece of a red plaid fabric was saved from my mother's stash. She made my twin sister and me an A-line shift from it. When I had my own daughter, there was enough to make her an A-line shift when she was about 3. My granddaughter will be one lucky girl when I finish a little summer top and bloomers with what is left. Yes, I also included some of that red plaid in her baby quilt!
Though I have hundreds and hundreds of fabrics, my favorite ones are the ones I inherited from my grandmother. My mom also sews (though just getting into quilting) she has a lot of pieces and scraps that she gives me. Not long ago, I took fabrics from each of us and put made a Thousand Pyramids quilt from them. My mom cried when she looked over the quilt and saw her mothers fabrics, her fabrics and mine in them. Those are the fabrics I love most - the ones that have a story with them.
I love so many different lines. I love anything by Heather Ross especially. She is my all time favorite! I just bought some of this Summersault line and I love the colors Erin chose for this line.
Oh the memory that comes back to me is the fabric that my mom used to sew me several pairs of underwear!! I was probably 6 years old or so and it had little yellow duckies on it. It didn't even occur to me that we were dirt poor, I thought I was special because I got to choose the fabric for my panties!!
My favorite fabric right now is Sherbert Pips! It is adorable. I just finished a bag with Innocent Crush Home dec weight fabric and I have gotten so many compliments. I hope to win so I can play around with the laminate fabric...never used it so far.
My favorites tend to be basics - and geometrics prints at that. Things I can go to again and again - match with multiple groups of fabric. But I also love dots that are not really dots - like the Joel Dewberry Chestnuts that I use over and over!
Huh - my long rambling comment isn't here :( So I will summarize - I find myself using geometric basics over and over - but also dots that are not dots - like Joel Dewberry Chestnuts that I use over and over.
I bought a set of 8 fat quarters years ago at the local Minnesota Fabrics store (which is now out of business :-< ) They are all the same print, and each one blends into the next. The red one has orange leaves, the orange one has yellow leaves, the yellow one has green leaves, etc. They just fascinate me, and I want to use them, but just haven't found the right project yet. And I bought them at least 10 years ago!
I have some lovely Japanese silk that my mum passed down to me 6 months ago, whole 6 yards of it! Its so lovely that I dont think I can ever bring myself to cut into it, even though I know there'll still be plenty left!
