If someone gives me fabric or I find an old dress or bag of scraps in a thrift shop or yard sale or something that was in my mother's large collection, I will likely use it in a quilt-I cannot go to a fabric store and pick out fabric by the yard unless I have a specific need for it. I love scraps and small bits. My mother, who grew up in the heart of the depression always laughed about keeping the smallest pieces because they were "too big to throw away". I am very much like that but my truly scrappy quilts always won prizes at our quilt guild when I was active in it.
