It's finally time to reveal the Christmas in July, Block-a-Thon quilt! After creating each of the 19 blocks, we have put them together to make one fabulous quilt. If you did not participate in our Block-a-Thon, no worries! You have plenty of time to catch up! We will have a flip book put together where you can go back and create each of the blocks. My favorite holiday is Halloween. I love to make costumes. I've made quite a few through the years. I love the creativity I see on some of the children who show up at my door. It's too bad so many costumes are store bought. Home made ones are so much better.

ReplyDeleteI do enjoy making Christmas themed decorations and quilts, but my very favorite holiday sewing is the Halloween costumes I used to make for my son when he was younger. He always wanted something unique -- one year he was a hammer and his best buddy was a nail (I also made that costume). One year when he was in high school he was a giant Swedish Fish (like the candy). Such fun!

ReplyDeleteThis Christmas is my 4th year of belonging to the most wonderful club called GRANDMA HOOD! In the 4 years, grandchildren count has grown to 3. (and theynare all girls) HOW BLLESSED AM I? ?????? There is nothing more wonderful than having grandchildren and the gifts I make for them are my most important projects for the year. and I'm sure I don't have to even say this but...."the gifts are made with love." lol sometimes I get a little tearie while I'm working on the gifts. They all live so far away.

ReplyDeleteEvery year that my children were growing up my Christmas gifts were centered around a theme each year was different. I remember hand embroidering quilts for each of my kids as infants and then again I did it for my 3 kids as they got older. Now I am learning how to quilt and I find it just as interesting that I can create patterns to create pictures as well.

ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed watching this quilt progress and participating with my own fabric choices. I most enjoy making Christmas ornaments each year with the grandkids. We love the Christmas season and start early to make it last as long as possible.
ReplyDeleteI buy tons of holiday themed fabric and make placemats for gifts, re-useable holiday cocktail napkins (heavy on the machine embroidery!)and cube shaped ornaments stuffed with batting. Each of the six sides of the cube is either a mini-block or a holiday fabric. The placemats are easy to machine quilt and in the gift bag I add paper napkins in a matching color.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite Christmas project was a bright yellow Christmas stocking I made for my niece. I used a bright yellow satin fabric that had gold snowflakes embroidered on it. Added a puffy gold crystal organza cuff.

ReplyDeleteI am excited to be making toy play mat & totes for my children, nieces and nephews. I saw an online tutorial for sewing giant circles together with draw strings all around the edges, so it is a play mat but when they are done they shove the Lego or whatnot into the center at pull the draw string to make a storage bag for the toys! I love sewing fun and helpful projects.
I love the finished quilt, it's so eclectic. My favorite Christmas project is sewing up some felt stockings and decorating them and personalizing them.

You know the beaded, sequined kind they made in the 60's? Like that. They are kitschy but I love them because that's what I had growing up.
