Karen Gray Design featured in Spring issue of Quilt Sampler magazine

Congrats to Karen Gray Design in Winston-Salem, NC, who is featured in the Spring Issue of Better Homes & Garden's Quilt Sampler magazine. Quilt Sampler is published twice a year and is considered the ultimate shop hop, bringing you unique quilt shops to visit either through the pages of the magazines or as your travel plans permit.
Karen's shop is located in the Dairy Barn on the old R. J. Reynolds estate. Bright and trendy, the chandeliered-shop exclusively sells Rowan and FreeSpirit fabrics. It is apparent why Karen's customers find solace in the yards of fabric and open atmosphere at the shop. Creative sewing classes, from beginning quilting to apparel sewing, happen right on the sales floor and inspire her customers to create beyond their sewing comfort zones. A place for fun and fellowship, Karen's shop is a gathering place for all those who love fabric.

In addition to being a featured shop, Karen also designed projects for the issue. Here is a photo of her featured quilt.

We'd love to hear about your favorite quilt shop, whether in your home town or one you have visited as you traveled. Comment by Friday, April 30 and win one of five copies signed by Karen of the new Spring issue of Quilt Sampler magazine. Winners will be announced on Monday, May 3.

Take a look at these photos from Karen's shop and if you find yourself in the neighborhood, stop by . . . Karen will show you her fabric stash! Enjoy!

  1. Why, oh, why can't it be closer??!! I'll have to do a road trip sometime... One of the best quilt shops out there is The Material Girls Quilt shop in South Jordan, UT. If you are going to SLC next month, it is worth the trip - only 20 minutes south of SLC. Nadine is the shop owner and is great with all her customers. She was in the Quilt Sampler magazine a couple years ago as one of the best and she really is. I moved from UT to SC last year and have missed my almost daily visits to her shop.

  11. Well, I would have to say that Karen's shop is one of my favorites. Karen's shop packs a lot in a small place. Always fun to see what is new. The last photo that you show has some towels that I made for classes hanging in the window. A quilt on the chair is mine too. It is exiting to see them on your blog.
    Congrats to you and Karen.

  12. My favourite quilt shop - that is difficult. I have only one local quilt shop, and while I like it, I don't love it. There are two other quilt shops within driving distance of me, both across the international border. One is an hour away and it's a nice shop. My favourite is the one that is seven hours away and I haven't been to for two years. Maybe I wouldn't like it anymore! Needless to say I shop on line a lot. Would love to come and visit your shop.

  18. Karen's shop looks just delightful! I don't have a favorite shop, but I have recently been shopping at A Quilter's Stash in N. Attleboro, MA where I am visiting. It is a small shop, but well laid out and there are a lot of fun things happening within it's walls. The ladies that work there are very friendly and helpful. I always return to shop there when I am passing through.

  19. I'll defnitely have to visit next time we are back east! We have a wonderful shop here in Walla Walla, WA called "Stash". I also like shops I stumble onto in the middle of nowhere like Quilts Plus in Halfway, OR - an unbelieveable well stocked shop in a tiny town on the edge of Hell's Canyon on the Snake River!
    Cheers!

  20. My favorite local Quilt shop is Country Manor in Battle Ground Washington. It is out in the country and only open 10-4 Tuesday -Sat. It is glorious! Fabric, fabric and more fabric, a HUGE clearance room, and the owner is very knowledgeable about fabric. I sometimes go in just to drool!

  23. Too bad I'm on the other side of the USA, Karen's shop is lovely. One of my favorite shops is "Quiltz" in Phoenix, AZ and I know she was featured in a magazine before they sold the shop. It's a Great shop with lots of gorgeous fabric. Thanks for the chance to win a magazine.

  24. I would love to visit Karens shop but, as I am in a small town in Texas for now, I will have to settle for the wonderful photos. The closest shop that I love to dream in, is Sisters Scraps.....even after the 50 mile jaunt to the shop, they never disappoint me. They are so friendly and have the most wonderful fabric and goodies.
