Back-to-School Pencil Case

Today we continue our Back-To-School series with a Zippered Pencil Case. Quick and easy to put together, this handy little pouch will hold pens, pencils and plenty of odd bits.

The cases in the photo show off FreeSpiritParson Gray prints and Parson Gray Renaissance ribbons. (See Renaissance Ribbons for more of your favorite Rowan and FreeSpirit designer ribbons.) However, you can easily change the look from one of masculine utility to anything that suits your school age child. Looking for a feminine touch? Select a sweet floral print and add rick rack or lace. Or is it fun and funky you require? Choose bright prints and go wild. It’s entirely up to you.

Each case only needs two 10” squares of fabric and one 9” zipper. So grab your favorite FreeSpirit designer fabrics and make some for the kids in your life. While you’re at it, make one for yourself too!

To cool for words . . . Denyse Schmidt talks about color!

FreeSpirit designer Denyse Schmidt is featured in a video to promote the release of an iPad app for Josef Alber's Interaction of Color. The designers and artists in the trailer talk about the way they use color. The app's release coincides with the 50th anniversary of a book considered to be THE book about color theory. Many quilters want to know or understand color theory, and while Denyse was schooled in Alber's ideas, she was selected because they felt she intuitively embodied his philosophies in her work.

Drum Roll please . . . . the winner is!

The randomly selected commentator and the winner of the Verna Mosquera book, A Sewn Vintage Lifestyle, and a 30 piece fat quarter of FreeSpirit Billet-Doux, is HeartsDesire. She says,

"I always enjoy reading anything that highlights a quilter's journey, and Verna's book is no exception. Instead of taking the easy quilting road, I'm going to push ahead and try something I've not done before. I'd love to make a Dear Jane quilt and now, I'm going to give it a try. Thanks for the wonderful giveaway."

Congratulations!
